The comment "but critics have been quick to point out AT&T and Comcast could both see metered Internet access as a way to shut down a growing threat to their own video operations" is noteworthy, though.
I've long thought that this is one way to protect profitable TV distribution operations from cannibalization by the Internet -- something any company that is both a BDU (Broadcast Distribution Undertaking) and an ISP (Internet Service Provider) is likely to be very concerned about and is in a position to "disrupt" what otherwise might be a faster/more complete consumer switch to the Internet for TV content.
